Sean L. Lager M.D.

Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine
Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine

Dr. Sean Lager is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who was fellowship trained in sports medicine. In 2012, Dr. Lager received his subspecialty certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery for Sports Medicine, joining a select number of distinguished sports medicine specialists in the United States.

Dr. Lager's interests include arthroscopy and the management of sports-related and severe traumatic injuries for children and adults. His patients range from elite level and professional athletes to weekend warriors. He treats anything from mild ankle sprains to complex, multi-fracture trauma.

Dr. Lager continues to perfect his surgical techniques and stays current with the latest technologies by routinely attending surgical workshops every year. He prefers arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques to open procedures.

Dr. Lager completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore where he was a member of the medical staff for the Baltimore Ravens and served as the primary physician for several Division I college and high school teams. Since that time, he has been the head physician for the New Jersey All-Star High School Football team for 3 years and continues to work with numerous local high school and college teams while at Gotham City Orthopedics.

Dr. Sean Lager was an Illinois high school state champion in swimming and soccer and competed at the NCAA Division I level until he sustained a knee injury and underwent surgery. He currently is a member of the New York Road Runners club and completed the NYC Marathons in 2011 and 2013.

Because of this, Dr. Lager understands how important it is for athletes to be able to return to their sports as soon as possible. He personally experienced the anxiety, fear, and pain of surgery and the demands of post-operative physical therapy.

When asked why he became an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Lager stated, "I had a negative experience as a patient, and while my surgeon was world-renowned, he never put me at ease or answered my questions thoroughly. I believed there was significant room for improvement and thought I could better empathize with my patients' worries and symptoms." With this perspective firmly in mind when working with each patient, Dr. Lager has earned a reputation for being an outstanding and compassionate orthopedic surgeon.

My experience with Gotham City Orthopedics in the Clifton and NYC offices has far exceeded my expectations. The staff, surgeon, doctors has delivered premium services on all levels! I broke my collarbone from the current rip tides in the ocean and contacted Dr. Sean Lager's office. Immediately, they took x-rays and recommended surgery. Dr. Lager and his team professionally repaired my collarbone and provided Physical Therapy with care, concern, and with the goal to achieve maximum mobility in my shoulder and collarbone area. I am so grateful for their diligent endless efforts in restoring me back to normalcy.

We have dealt with nothing but friendly, caring staff while dealing with my wife's ACL/Medial Meniscus tear. The doctors are all very thorough and knowledgeable. They take the time to get to know you as a patient and person, and they structure their care around your personal goals and needs.

The caring stretches through all of their staff. They do a great job of keeping you well informed of appointment schedules, care schedules, and insurance coverage. They handled 100% of the insurance approval processes for all of my wife's care and surgical procedures. It has really made this whole process a lot easier for us to handle.

I am happy to wait for this type of service and care any day of the week.

My son's pediatrician referred me to Gotham City Orthopedics after he said my son had a broken finger. They took care of my son and was really gentle with him. As a parent, the experience was probably worse for me then my son because he had a 'cool story' to tell his friends, but everyone at Gotham was great and I would definitely recommend them to kids of all ages!

I had a fantastic experience with Gotham City Orthopedics. I had seen another Orthopedist in Jersey City a few years ago and wasn't too happy, but everyone at Gotham was so nice and respectful. I felt as if when I walked into the office I had completely left Jersey City because it was such a different and professional atmosphere. Great experience with great people.

I sprained my back and was the first time I ever did so and was at a complete loss as to what to do. I had never been to a chiropractor and wasn't keen on getting my back cracked and realigned so a friend suggested Physical Therapy. I went to my first appointment at Gotham in Clifton and was extremely nervous and not knowing what to expect.

I went on a Saturday and didn't wait long and was greeted warmly by my Physical Therapist, Alfredo. He allowed me to thoroughly go through what happened to my back and where the pain was. As we went through therapy he talked and made me feel at ease. He went through step by step what he was doing and how it was going to help. After the session he took the time to show me a few exercises I could do at home to help stretch my back out. He was warm, knowledgeable and patient and had a skill of making me feel comfortable.

For my first session not only did I feel much better but I feel comfortable coming back for any other problems I may have.
