We have fully staffed Physical Therapy offices at our NYC, Jersey City and Clifton locations. We have state-of-the-art equipment, including Trazer™ and offer early morning, later evening, and Saturday hours.
In addition to having well-trained and outstanding Physical Therapists and staff, Gotham City Physical Therapy prevails over other centers in that they are directly associated with our team of Orthopedists and Sports Medicine experts. Patients' PT regimens are reviewed with the physicians who prescribe them, and set backs as well as successes are easily communicated between the Physical Therapist and your physician. For patients who come to our Physical Therapy facilities with a prescription from another provider, we always have a Gotham physician available for a second opinion or for an evaluation should one be necessary.
In order to provide a new standard in care, our clinical and administrative staff are always available following surgery. If you have any questions about your care or if any concerns arise, we can help you reach a swift resolution.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Physical Therapy?
Physical Therapy is an individualized routine of therapeutic treatments/exercises administered and supervised by a trained and licensed Physical Therapist. The purpose of Physical Therapy is to assist patients suffering from pain, injuries, and accidents as well as those recovering from surgery, with the intention of returning them to full mobility.
Why do I need Physical Therapy?
Physical Therapy, when administered by a trained therapist, will help build muscle strength and joint mobility. This allows patients to recover the most movement possible following an injury or Orthopedic surgery. Physical Therapy is also a proven method of pain management.
How long will it take for me to recover?
In order for Physical Therapy to be fully effective, patients must commit to following the therapist’s prescribed regimen. The amount of time needed for recovery will vary by your specific condition and degree of injury, as well as your personal recovery speed. If you are undergoing rehabilitation following surgery, your recovery time will depend on intensity of the surgery. Once the therapist has evaluated your condition and initial response to therapy, he or she will be better able to determine the anticipated recovery time.
What will my Physical Therapy consist of?
Physical Therapy treatment varies from patient to patient. Your Gotham City Orthopedics physician will coordinate with the therapist to determine the proper course of treatment to best address your specific needs.
At Gotham City Orthopedics, we offer many Physical Therapy services. In helping you regain full function of your body, our expert Physical Therapists will custom craft a treatment plan that will likely include several of the following components:
- Advanced Manual Therapy
- Joint Mobilization
- Trigger Point Therapy
- Muscle Energy Techniques
- McKenzie Exercise Programs
- Posture & Balance Training
- Post-Operative Rehabilitation
- Strength & Flexibility Training
- Therapeutic Exercise
- Performance Training
If you have questions regarding Physical Therapy, please call Gotham City Orthopedics. We will be happy to help you understand exactly how it works.
What are the goals of Physical Therapy?
Our therapists will work with you individually to assess and address your personal goals and return you to the highest level of function possible. In Physical Therapy, the ultimate goal is a full return to your prior level of function before your injury, condition or surgery. Your therapist will work with you to address the following as appropriate:
- Reduction/resolution of painful symptoms
- Return of mobility and range of motion
- Addressing strength limitations and training in an appropriate exercise program
- Balance and stability training
- Prevention of future injuries
- Patient and family education
- Home exercise program
What can I expect on my first visit to Physical Therapy?
When you arrive at our facility, our staff will review your insurance coverage and your personal financial obligations based upon our prior verification of your benefits. Our staff will personally explain to you all of the complexities and details of your insurance coverage. We will always be available to answer any of your questions or concerns regarding your benefits, even following your discharge from therapy.
You will then be evaluated by one of our licensed Physical Therapists. Your evaluation will be a one-on-one session in which your therapist will perform a thorough and comprehensive examination, noting any areas of deficiency or limitation in your function relating to your diagnosis or condition. Based upon the findings of your evaluation, you will be educated as to your diagnosis and we will address each of your questions and concerns. You will also be issued a home exercise program prescribed by your clinician specifically for you.
What should I bring to my first visit?
To ensure your first visit goes as planned, please bring the following:
- Comfortable clothes (including shoes and socks) that will allow access to your area of injury (i.e. shorts for a knee/ankle)
- Your insurance card and personal identification
- Your copay/deductible payment if applicable
- Your prescription for Physical Therapy.
Clifton, NJ patients can trust we will make their first visit as comfortable and smooth as possible.
Will my Gotham City Orthopedics physician be involved in my therapy program?
Absolutely. The physician/therapist relationship is a critical component of your therapy program. Our therapists will communicate their findings and your progress to your physician at Gotham City Orthopedics. Physical Therapy should be a personalized service, and this “team” approach distinguishes us from other centers.
Your physician and Physical Therapist will work seamlessly to provide you with the best care possible.
